Is Beard Oil for your beard hair or the skin beneath it?
The root system of a plant has a pretty big job. It’s to feed the stems and leaves with water and dissolved minerals as well as anchor the plant to the soil. That soil MUST be healthy and fertile enough to hold and grow a thriving and healthy plant. Uncared for soil will soon become suited only for growing weeds.
After reading this, you’re probably saying to yourself, “I came here to learn about Beard Oil and growing/maintaining my beard, not to take a horticulture class!!” Well…think of your beard being similar to a plant. While you want to have a healthy looking and robust beard, if the skin underneath is uncared for, the result will end with a scratchy, dry, unfulfilled beard. What you put on that skin matters. What it comes down is this….
BEARD OIL IS MAINLY FOR THE SKIN
I know…I know…it goes against the name “Beard Oil.” Trust me. My beard grooming journey has revealed many things I was unaware of. The job of your beard oil is to make sure the skin beneath your beard avoids dryness which creates beard dandruff, keep your pores clog free, moisturize the skin and aids in restoring damaged hair follicles. Skin is the largest organ of our body. What you put on it matters. And in the case of growing a healthy beard, shouldn’t you care about what goes on the skin beneath it?
As the owner of New York Grooming Company, I take great care about what I put on my skin. What led me to my beard grooming journey was the discomfort I encountered in applying beard oils to my skin made in some far away Asian lab or parts unknown. I was getting breakouts within my beard and didn’t see great results. Even in American made beard products, they take little account that as men of African descent our skin requires a different type of care. In making our Beard Oil, I made sure to look for oils that can help my beard hair but primarily keep my skin type beneath my beard healthy.
NYGC BEARD OIL = SKIN CARE
If a beard oil brand isn’t focusing on how the ingredients is helping your skin, it’s not a worthwhile brand. NYGC Beard Oil focuses on the skin beneath your beard with ingredients such as:
Moringa Oil: Zinc is a very important contributor to healthy hair follicles, which are the roots of every single hair on your head. Zinc improves hair growth by supporting damaged hair follicles to recover more quickly. It helps keep the oil glands around the follicles working properly.
Grapeseed Oil: This oil packs a strong moisturizing punch in a lightweight formulation with vitamin C, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Jojoba Oil.: This oil absorbs into the skin and heals dryness. It also creates a protective layer on the surface of the skin that helps keep moisture in.
As a beard grower, I don’t want you to leave this article thinking you should only concern yourself with the skin beneath your beard when buying beard oil. Beard Oil should also have benefits for the hair. However, the primary function of your Beard Oil should be for healthier skin. Beard Oils are to penetrate the first layer of skin and first layer of hair. In our next installment, we will get into Beard balms (NYGC Beard Balm) and how they are primarily tasked with nourishing the hair.
